Does the Word Cheap Spoil the Fun of Bali

Article by Peter Brittain

To many, Bali conjures with it the image of paradise. This is hardly surprising, considering that it has vast sandy beaches, a breathtaking landscape and a tropical climate, to boot.

Yet, some are deterred from venturing onto Bali’s golden shores, as they feel that something so akin to paradise would command a hefty price tag. Such thoughts are not to be scorned at, as most of us were taught that good things do not come cheap and that cheap things are seldom good. This maxim holds true in numerous instances, but when it comes to accommodation in Bali, this adage, thankfully, proves to be a popular misconception.

Of course, there are some hotels in Bali which are exorbitantly priced. Places such as these, generally, do carry excellent amenities and provide a commendable service, too. But some, despite its heavy price tag, leave much to be desired, in terms of customer expectation and satisfaction.

Conversely, in Bali, some well-designed and well-maintained villas, which cater to holiday-makers; are priced very reasonably. In most instances, this does not, in any way, indicate inferior service or less-than-acceptable facilities, as many a seasoned traveler would happily confirm.

When holiday-makers opt to stay in one of the more economically priced villas, it does not mean that they are foregoing creature comforts to save a dollar or two. For instance, certain tourist lodgings, despite being reasonably priced, offer luxurious amenities such as swimming pools and beautifully landscaped gardens; in addition to basic facilities, amongst which, fully functional electricity, water supply and telecommunication options, rank high in priority.

Private villas offer privacy to the eager traveler, which many popular hotels generally fail to do. This privacy cum exclusivity does not always come at an additional cost, as many a visitor will happily confirm. However, this does not mean the potential holiday-maker would be cut-off from experiencing the vibrant night-life that Bali has on offer; as many such accommodation facilities carry the necessary infrastructure to facilitate this with ease. Affordable villa rentals yield other benefits too. For instance, if you are on a tight budget and if you opt to take advantage of reasonably priced accommodation, you will (obviously) have more cash in hand. This enables the eager tourist to engage in more sightseeing, do more shopping and provides them the opportunity to visit more local attractions, if they wish to do so.

If a traveler is on a shoestring budget, a well mapped out travel itinerary would of course, be of immense help. For instance, he/she can opt to travel to Bali during off-peak season (other factors permitting, of course); where generally, air fare and even accommodation, comes at a considerably lower price than during the peak season. On the same note, it is prudent, when traveling to Bali, to take advantage of special deals that certain accommodation facilities have on offer, at certain times. Also, a well-planned out holidays ensures that the traveler prioritizes the places of interest that best appeal to him/her, enabling them to visit these places in a systematic manner, which in turn will reduce transportation costs within the island, considerably.

Sea, sun, surf, and sand, sum up the most sought after attractions that Bali has on offer. Yet, as is now readily apparent, you need not be a millionaire to take advantage of this tropical paradise. Because if you plan wisely, you can travel to Bali at a fraction of the cost that many expect to incur, and be pleasantly surprised at how cost effective a vacation destination Bali has turned out to be.
