Holidays in Asia
For anyone contemplating a holiday in Asia, the choices may seem bewildering. Some planning will sort out the best destinations and travel deals, and a lot of valuable information can be found online. The Indonesian island of Bali and the island of Phuket in southern Thailand are among the most popular Asian resorts. The island city nation of Singapore is among the most modern resort cities, offering the most luxurious amenities found anywhere. The old British colony of Hong Kong, which is now part of China, is still a long-time favorite of holiday travelers, and in recent years a new airport has made it more popular. Japan has continued for many decades as a popular attraction with it’s own special charm. After many years of turmoil, Cambodia is welcoming tourists to the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat. India is also growing as a holiday destination with increased airline service.
In recent years there has been an increase in trans-pacific service to several Asian gateways from both North America and Europe, giving travelers more choices than ever before. For many years the only transpacific flights from North America was from the Pacific rim cities like San Francisco and Seattle, but the increased range offered by the latest jet transports has brought nonstop service from eastern cities such as New York, Chicago, and Houston to China and Japan, and from there to western Europe.
For those who want to experience a closer look and feel of ethnic Asian cultures while avoiding the congestion of the big gateway cities, there are many organized tours to smaller cities and historical sites that are not as crowded, making for a relaxing experience. Inexpensive bed and breakfast accomodations can be enjoyed often for much less than large hotels in big cities, allowing for a greater appreciation of the local art, language, and cultural traditions.
In spite of the many Asian resorts beckoning holiday travelers, the Great Wall of China remains a prime destination of historical significance not far from the capital city of Beijing, and getting there is easier than ever now that several Chinese airlines offer many international flights.
