This large war victim is just metres from the shore. The ship was torpedoed in 1942 and after it was rescued it was beached. The Liberty crashed beneath the sea during the eruption and now sits on a black sand shelf that slopes from about 6m-30m. The wreck is vast, perhaps 120m long and lies parallel to the beach.
